very bottle matters. Every bag of waste collected, sorted, and recycled is more than just trash—it’s income, dignity, and transformation for the communities we serve.
Last week, we visited one of our most vibrant Waste to Wealth hubs located in the outskirts of Cape Town. What we found wasn’t just a recycling site—it was a living engine of opportunity. From early morning, dozens of community members were already at work: sorting materials, compacting plastics, and tallying recyclable weights that translate directly into earnings.
Among them was Tumi, a 26-year-old former waste picker who now leads her own cooperative team. “Before Kwedu came, we were invisible,” she says. “Now, we are trained, equipped, and respected for the work we do. My team and I earn more consistently and even train others.”
This initiative has diverted over 3,500 tons of waste from landfills, created over 200 micro-jobs, and laid the foundation for what we call “eco-entrepreneurship”—the fusion of environmental sustainability and grassroots enterprise.
Our Waste to Wealth program is not only cleaning up communities, but also fueling financial independence, especially for women and youth. Through structured training, cooperative models, and market linkages, we’re creating a circular economy led by the very people most impacted by environmental neglect.
